Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc., Phoenix Cesar Chavez: The Arizona Struggle (WTP), $3,000. An oral history project resulting in a documentary film, airing throughout 2009, on Cesar Chavez’s civil rights work in South Phoenix in the 1960s and 70s. Project Director: Elizabeth Martinez, 602/415-9401.
Flagstaff Festival of Science, Flagstaff. Flagstaff Festival of Science, $6,000. Honorarium and promotional materials for this annual free festival, held for ten days in September, which includes living history presentations, guided archaeology hikes, and a keynote speaker addressing the effects of infectious disease on human civilization. Kore Press, Tucson. Trilingual Anthology of Contemporary Indigenous Mexican Women Poets, $3,000. A publication of poetry, critical essays, and a companion audio CD, accompanied by book release events and panel discussions in Tucson and Mexico City in winter 2009. An institute in June 2008 incorporating lectures, workshops, and field trips that provide secondary teachers and high school students with content on the historical, cultural, and religious traditions of the Middle East. University of Arizona Poetry Center, Tucson. Conceptual Poetry and Its Others Symposium, $6,000. A three-day public event in May 2008 that includes lectures, panel discussions, and literary presentations, many of which will be web-accessible, exploring new forms within contemporary literature.
